De Profundis was born in the fall of 2010, when songwriter Sebastian Weber convinces producer Ezequiel Spinelli to work with him on his solo album, meant to be recorded by an orchestra and a chamber music ensemble. Spinelli goes for the use of synthesizers as a replacement of that imaginary orchestra.

Seeing Spinelli’s talent and effort, convinces Weber that the album has to go from being a solo record, to a group one.

Weber defines their collaboration the following way: “Let’s imagine an orchestra. I’m in charge of writing the notes, and Ezequiel is in charge of the distribution of those notes among the different instruments, let’s say, the orchestration”.

Weber and Spinelli work with different musical talents from the Argentinean under scene to record the voices.

In the winter of 2010, Weber met again with an artist friend from his younger years, Araceli Ducato. The reunion gives them the chance to exchange their works, and thanks to that, Weber finds in Ducato’s art the best image for De Profundis; her drawings of children.

Weber convinces Ducato that the tenderness, together with the autumn like colors and melancholy of her drawings, is the perfect image for his ensemble work.

The musical style, with roots in academic music (Brahms, Messiaen, Bach, Wagner), the tensions created through noises and dissonances, the use of synthesizers, the different textures and atmospheres, plus the fact that every song is interpreted by a different singer, makes De Profundis a new, fresh kind of music, and for that, to be labeled within the field of “experimental music”.

The drawings that interpret each song, and that succeed to distinguish them with that rainy color of melancholy, allow De Profundis to be also a collective work of art.

De profundis se incia en el otoño de 2010 cuando el compositor Sebastian Weber convence al productor Ezequiel Spinelli para que produzca su disco solista pensado para orquesta y conjunto de cámara. Spinelli decide el uso de sintetizadores como reemplazo de esa ilusoria orquesta.

A raiz del talento y esfuerzo de Spinelli, Weber se convence que el disco debe pasar de ser un disco solista a un disco grupal. Weber define el trabajo en conjunto de la siguiente manera: ´´Imaginemos una orquesta. Yo me encargo de escribir las notas y Ezequiel se encarga de la distribución de esas notas en los instrumentos; digamos, la orquestación´´.
Weber y Spinelli trabajan con diferentes talentos del under Argentino para grabar las voces.

En el invierno del 2010, Weber se reencuentra con una amiga artista de su juventud, Araceli Ducato. El reencuentro permite que ambos artistas intercambien sus obras, y en ese intercambio, Weber encuentra en el arte de Ducato la imagen ideal para de profundis; sus dibujos de niños.
Weber convence a Ducato que la ternura junto al color otoñal y melancólico de sus dibujos, es la imagen deseada para la obra conjunta.

El estilo musical con raíces en la música académica (Brahms, Messiaen, Bach, Wagner), las tensiones mediantes ruidos y disonancias, la utilización de sintetizadores, las diferentes texturas y climas, sumados a que cada canción es interpretada por un cantante diferente, hace que de profundis sea una música nueva y, por lo tanto, sea catalogada en el terreno de música experimental.

Los dibujos que interpretan a cada canción, y que logran distinguirlas mediante ese color lluvioso de la melancolía, permiten que de profundis sea también un arte colectivo.
